Creative Research Expeditions:
Drawing and Creative Workshops Abroad

GREECE 2007

JUNE 10 - JULY 1, 2007

Manifest's first annual creative research expedition will involve a small group of creative explorers traveling through Greece for three weeks. The expedition will consist of the following:

• an itinerary designed especially for a small group of 15-20 professional artists or art/design students, but which is open to involvement by adventurous non-artists as well. (see itinerary link below for details)

• a group leader from Manifest who is experienced in leading art/design courses and who has led a similar excursion to Greece in the past. Jason Franz, Executive Director of Manifest and visual artist (see website) will be our 2007 group leader. Franz is also an adjunct assistant professor teaching drawing for the School of Design at the University of Cincinnati. (see workshop curriculum link below for details)

• a flexible approach, with participation determined only by level of interest. (This could be a rigorous workshop, or a relaxing and educational vacation, depending on individual preference.)

• visits to most major archaeol-ogical sites and museums in southern Greece, including Athens, Epidaurus, Mycenea, Olympia, and Delphi, as well as the island of Milos.

• visits to monasteries, and remote villages.

• time spent on beaches and in remote natural settings.

• time to create artwork (drawing, photography, painting, etc.) on-site, and time for critiques and discussions.

• guided tours of sites with an english speaking Greek tour guide assigned to our group for the duration of the trip (mainland), and a private coach for travel between locations.

• optional college credit (negotiable with credit granting institution). Professors are invited to attend with their own students as a sub-group of the Manifest expedition, or work with Manifest's group leader to insure a proper curriculum for the credit.

• the workshop and tour fee of $3500 will cover all transportation (excluding transportation to/from Greece), accommodations, most breakfasts, guides, and ferry to Milos. Cost of college credit will be payable separately to the credit granting institution. Students are encouraged to inquire about travel grants from their schools, as well as to research funding from other sources.

• a planned full-color catalog and exhibit in Manifest Gallery's Drawing Room during the 07/08 season, which will document the workshop and travel experience and present it to the public.
