Description

A natural next step from Introduction to Figure Drawing, this course is designed for students who are ready to go deeper into the study of the human form. Figure Drawing II emphasizes structure, anatomy, and design in figure drawing, helping students move beyond basic proportion toward a more sophisticated and intentional approach. You’ll work from a live model throughout the course, using both quick and extended poses to study the body’s internal logic—bones, muscles, rhythm, and gesture—and how these elements contribute to the overall dynamics of a pose. Through guided critiques and targeted exercises, you’ll refine your ability to construct the figure with clarity and weight while developing a more personal and expressive visual language.

This class will cover the following topics:

• Strengthen your understanding of figure structure by studying anatomy, gesture, and the internal logic of the human form.

• Practice drawing from the live model using both short and long poses to develop clarity, weight, and rhythm.

• Learn how bones, muscles, and movement shape the figure—and how to show that through your drawing.

• Build a more intentional and expressive drawing style through critique, focused exercises, and personal exploration.

Level of Study: Intermediate

You’ve got the basics down, and now you’re ready to sharpen your skills, take on more challenges, and push your work further. Intermediate-level art courses are intended for students who have some foundational experience and are ready to refine their skills and deepen their understanding of technique, composition, and creative expression. These courses often assume familiarity with basic tools and concepts, allowing for more complex challenges, longer projects, and critical feedback. Ideal for those looking to build on prior training—whether self-taught or formal—these courses help you strengthen your personal voice and prepare for more advanced study.
