Description:

Take part in the centuries old discipline of cast drawing on the weekend of April 27th, when the Manifest Drawing Center studio will offer 12 hours of uninstructed, open drawing from our collection of plaster casts. Professionals, students, and the creative public are invited to work side-by-side in a relaxed environment towards the common pursuit of excellence in drawing.

Cast drawing provides the opportunity for artists to practice a variety of fundamental drawing skills while also allowing for the study of classical proportions and historical works. Manifest’s modest but growing collection is the only regional collection open to the public for the specific purpose of drawing – this opportunity is not to be missed!

With the help of a moderator, casts will be set up and lit early during the Saturday session. Drawing horses and easels as well as storage shelf space are available on a first-come first served basis. Supplementary seating, including chairs, stools, and cushions are also available. Participants should provide for their own supplies and drawing board.

Participants must register for the complete offering, but may come and go throughout the scheduled weekend hours as desired.

Casts available for drawing include:

Life-sized Houdon L’Ecorche

Half bust of Hermes

Half bust of King Agrippa

Full portrait bust of Julius Caesar

Full bust of Hermes

Flayed (anatomical) Hand

Foot from Michelangelo’s David
