THE WORKSHOPS
Painting the Portrait Miniature
taught by Adam Mysock
November 11–12
10am - 2:30pm each day with a 30 minute lunch break
Using acrylic paint on specially prepared panels, painter Adam Mysock will usher participants through the creation of eye-miniatures – minute paintings depicting the eye or eyes of a spouse, loved one, self, or child. Mysock will cover a variety of topics – including color theory, facial anatomy, and mark-making – throughout the course of the workshop. Brushes and panels will be provided free to all students.
Photographing the Infinitesimal
taught by Andrea Vetter
December 9–10
10am - 2:30pm each day with a 30 minute lunch break
Relying on today’s most ubiquitous camera – the cell phone camera, photographer and miniature enthusiast Andrea Vetter will guide participants through challenges specific to macro – or extreme close-up – photography, including decisions related to lighting, depth-of-field, and composition. Classroom demos and discussions will be paired with fieldwork, and students will come away with a finished print of their artwork.
Sculpting, Scaled Down
taught by Christian Schmit
December 16–17
10am - 2:30pm each day with a 30 minute lunch break
Concentrating on paper sculpting techniques, Christian Schmit will guide participants in this workshop through a series of exercises exploring the properties of paper, template making, X-acto knife cutting and scoring, folding, burnishing and gluing. Students will be guided through the processes of planning, sketching and sculpting their own tiny constructions. Free materials and tools will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring recycled and specialty papers and cardboard.
LOCATION: All courses are hosted at Manifest's Drawing Center Studios in Madisonville at 4905 Whetsel Avenue (second floor) (see map and direction links below). Manifest's studio facility provides two classroom studios and a darkroom totalling nearly 4000 square-feet. The
studios are outfitted with professional equipment, furniture, and study aids.
