statement

These drawings are confrontational and contemplative. They demand reverence and attention from the viewer but allow time and space to question your response. Their size transforms them from every day and mundane into landscapes where thoughts are made flesh. Mouths become caves. Folds become ravines and shadows are skies. Colour is removed so form takes over encouraging a journey through these places and identifying elements personal and true to you. Although figurative in subject matter, these drawings are abstract in nature. Mark making as a tool to balance what is seen with what can be discovered.

I choose the subjects for these drawings on impulse. I am searching for a quality in others that describes something in me. The drawings are then the result of hundreds of photographs and are never staged. It is through a process of elimination that I strive to solidify my initial reaction to the subject matter.
