Registration Deadline: September 5, 2017
September 10- October 22
Learning to read light and replicate scenes from direct observation is an integral part of a painting practice. This fall we will be chasing the sunset in multiple locations around Cincinnati as we paint outdoors or en plein air. During this 7-week class we will explore the conditions for painting on-site, observe colors under natural light, and learn to work quickly and follow our natural instincts. The quality of light in the fall is especially magical, and we will take full advantage of these golden hours of the season.
By the end of this course, students will:
- have an introductory understanding of the gouache medium
- be able to make quick compositional decisions
- work quickly to capture shifting lighting conditions
- be able to harmonize and simplify complex landscapes
- be able to take color notes
- complete 2-3 paintings during the 3-hour class time
