Beginning to Intermediate Figure Drawing is a 5-week sequential course providing guided instruction in drawing from the live human figure. While designed or those with little or moderate experience drawing from a life model, it is structured to serve a wide range of skill-sets on an individual basis.
Life Drawing is the backbone of understanding how to depict the world. The rhythms and energy of the body could not be more personal, timeless, or evocative as catalysts for art making. Skills developed in the practice of figure drawing are broadly applicable to many visual art practices.
In this class we will address the figure as something familiar. Students will be given exercises that will promote confidence in drawing the complicated human form. Issues of anatomical structure will also be addressed throughout the course.
Emphasis will be placed on challenging individual progress in a positive environment. The instructor will give demonstrations and offer customized guidance for each student’s development. The main goal of this class is for the student to develop a clear understanding of basic human form and proportions, as well as strategies for approaching life-drawing techniques.
