My work searches for ways to express deep and honest human emotions, through an exploration of self-portraiture.

This work, "Heart Strings" explores the emotions of vulnerability. It was made during the period that my children left home. A time when I felt deep and contrasting emotions. Strength and weakness. Empathy for the loss of innocence, and a fragile knowing which approached fear.

My life and art are interwoven. I don't fight that, instead I embrace it. I seek the simplest medium to accurately express my subject, and in this instance I chose to work on raw linen, with charcoal, pastel and embroidery.
