statement

In my current work, drawing serves as a direct and immediate method of exploring illusions of form, movement, and visual phenomena. These images, which contrast and interweave fluid surfaces with planar and linear elements, suggest elusive and shifting forms, astronomic and atmospheric events, and perceptual anomalies.

I'm deeply interested in pushing a material toward its limits, revealing its unanticipated and unique qualities. In these drawings, my initial gestural layers are the outcome of a responsive, durational engagement with an uncontrollably fluid medium, as I attempt to carve into it and give it form. Responding to these layers with more structured and depictive shapes, I seek to make images that are only just resolved, and that retain tensions between disparate elements. This process has yielded images of unidentifiable, ephemeral forms that appear in states of in flux.
