statement

Insects invade our lives in many different ways. These destructive, unwanted pests invade our beds, hair, crops and even our nightmares. They invade and undermine the foundations of our homes. They invade, but also augment our lives in not so obvious ways as well. I see styling cues derived from insects in automobiles, animation, designs from insect applied to energy and technology. We look to insects for medicines; insects are a protein source in some cultures; movies adapt the anatomy of insects to scare and frighten us. While insects strike fear, irritate, teach, fascinate and gross us out, we learn from them. We forget how important these miniscule nuisances really are. We are aware of the importance of bees as they distribute pollen midst the crops necessary to our very survival, and we have learned from observing the social structures of ants, bees and termites. Still, we create endless products to exterminate and rid us of them.

I have been inspired by the theme of insects and "itching" to see what direction it takes me. The objective for me is the creation of a body graphic works on paper that explore different ground supports and a wide range of wet and dry media, wherein the insect theme is invited to invade the contents of my artwork.
