statement

My current artwork addresses the experience of travel, of movement across land, of the motion of our lives and resulting effect on the aesthetics of locality. A commuter is a traveler of routine, an individual traversing the same avenues, the same routes, moving out of habit and necessity. Colorful marquees and the facades of franchise establishments are readily identifiable to driver or passenger. Electrical and telephone cables and poles indiscreetly line avenues, which, along with traffic lights and signs, create virtually complete netting above. While the constant supply of construction markers and devices serves as a reminder of the inadequacy of the infrastructure designed to support our vehicular orthodoxy.

Drawing is integral to my creative approach, as the medium provides an unencumbered means to describe speed and motion. By matching pace with time-based experience, the immediacy of the drawing can distill both essential and unassuming details. I search not for stillness, but rather the presence of tranquility amidst the mess.
