statement

In my work, I often try to narrate a story, bring an idea to life or simply attempt to transport myself to an imaginary world. Memories, objects, films and many random moments in life often inspire my work.

Months can easily pass by with a piece of this scale when working with charcoal, from the moment a concept is born, from drawing every detail, to selecting the perfect frame. The composition and each item is carefully arranged to clearly bring an idea to life and making it a very personal object.

In "Tooth Decay," I wanted to show that our passions from childhood, in this case sweet things, are carried onto adulthood. I think we never stop enjoying that which we love from early on in life. Here I use my own x-rays, multiple dental instruments and an extracted molar to indicate a very dreaded experience, but the manner in which the objects are arranged, is intended to be humorous.

I graduated with honors from Baruch College, New York City, with a B.A. in Graphic Design and Photography, and later pursued Drawing and Ceramics studies from Montgomery College, Maryland. At Montgomery, I was awarded a prestigious study abroad scholarship to learn the classic approach to drawing at Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. It was in Florence that I developed a great interest in realism, and was later selected as an apprentice at the Ani Art Academies - Waichulis where I will conclude my studies. My goal is to convey emotions and tell stories by infusing my uniquely imaginative concepts with my strongly developed contemporary style.
