statement

I seek to create work that rewards thoughtful observation with poignancy and challenge. I hope to lead viewers to recognize that what they have been searching for exists within and all around them.

My most recent work is about the aspect of sight that is most connected to searching. It is inspired by the selection of and exploration through data collections that exist as part of our common base of accumulated knowledge.

My background in drawing provides a fluid platform for selecting and inventing related materials and techniques to express the things I find.

"1000 Eyes" is a search for omniscient sight. This 80 x 120 work surrounds the viewer with a mass of pairs of human eyes enlarged from the eyes of students and teachers in the main public library's collection (in Cincinnati) of high school yearbooks, evoking Buddhist and Catholic manifestations of universal compassion and witness.
