statement

In my work, social commentary is abstractly woven into minimalistic spaces and structures. Though I do not subscribe to any particular medium, my background in graphic design heavily influences my work. I utilize clean graphic and architectural elements, giving my work a sense of "air" or "space" so that the viewer can move around the subject visually, and sometimes physically.

The "Voided Spaces" series is an exploration into the constant wavering balance between chaos and order through the marriage of geometric and organic spaces. The cumbersome nature of the graphite powder medium is used to help convey the unpredictability of our lives, and our blind pursuit for control.

Using imagery from large fires, the drawings, though appearing to be meditative, are explorations into chaos and our ability to distance ourselves physically and mentally, creating barriers, or voids, around us to function and to move within. They don't completely lockout the chaos; they interact with it, absorb it, and sometimes allow it to penetrate. The drawings are sculptural, "carving out" the imagery from the darkness of the graphite.
