Manifest's exhibit, The Drawthrough
Collection by Scott Robertson, and this lecture will bring the notable
Los Angeles based concept designer to Cincinnati. Robertson
has taught at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena,
California since 1995 (with a brief stint in the Art Center
Europe in Switzerland for nearly two years). He is the
founder of Design Studio Press, which has a mission of
design, drawing, and rendering education.
Robertson also currently works as a design consultant for the entertainment, sporting
goods, and transportation industry with a past client list that includes Mattel
Toys, Nike, Universal Studios, Fiat, and the feature film The Minority Report.
This exhibit/lecture combo fulfills Manifest’s
Drawing Center mission whereby that fundamental discipline
is promoted, featured, and explored, as well as to serve as
a resource for those interested in a career in the creative
visual arts. This is a chance for artists and designers to learn from one of the very best concept designers and teachers currently working in the field today!

The lecture will begin by discussing effective drawing for concept design and visualization, including the drawthrough method and the importance of thinking three-dimensionally when designing in 2D. Robertson will also discuss the important lessons that can be learned by observing the drawings on display at Manifest Gallery.
The lecture will continue by focusing on the principles of light, and how reflections occur in nature. After a discussion of the fundamentals of reflections he will demonstrate digital rendering strategies for reflective materials using Adobe Photoshop. Demonstrations will include forms in a range of complexity, from simple solids to a complete automobile. The materials covered in the demo will be clear and tinted glass, glossy and metallic painted surfaces, and chrome.

Who Should Attend:
Anyone interested in learning basic and advanced tips on drawing effectively and using digital rendering techniques. High school students, college art and design students, professionals in the design field, and instructors of drawing are all highly encouraged to participate. This program is open to anyone.
