statement
Walking, like photographing, cultivates a more heightened awareness of the world around us, and it is in this pedestrian mode that I make photographs. The series "Occupied" includes the image "Harrington Avenue". I seek out details and the unexpected in ordinary, human scaled landscapes. I walk searching for visual elements that juxtapose the environment with our humanity. I am drawn to the repetitive construction created by human hands, through obsession or habit, to found text, and to juxtapositions that reveal new understandings about our relationship to the environment. The patience that is often required of us as we go about our daily lives create cycles that ground our existence, and these are amplified as I pursue making work. I often find humor or intrigue where others merely were getting the job done. My interest in human intersections with the landscape, whether by design or by chance, encourages me to explore further, seeking out harmony and dissonance.
