statement

My understanding as a female in society fuels the content of my work. I juxtapose the female figure with the wildness of nature to convey a sense of female power. I am greatly influenced by works of literature that represent the female through supernatural imagery. I expand the Romantic idea of nature as a sublime element, emphasizing the weather, and other natural phenomenon, so as to expose the disorderly freedom of the natural world. The unruly landscape mirrors the mysterious female figure. Furthermore, I represent the figure in an isolated environment, with a strong gaze toward the viewer. My cool color palette assists in creating a mood that reflects the dismal emotion of the figure. The melancholic expressions of the figure, combined with natural phenomenon, convey a sense of intrigue. All of these decisions allow me to engage the viewer with sensual wonder and emotion.
