statement

My paintings touch upon many things: feelings for particular landscapes and how the passage of time reclaims and shapes that terrain; a sense of moving through life, and of walking through cities while reflecting upon the elusiveness of space, whether among crowds or surrounded by emptiness. Aerial views, mind-mapping and tracing of different geographies play a role in my works.

I am fascinated by the structural patterns of both old and new architecture, especially in its connection to adjacent topography. My goal is to make works that create several different interpretations and trigger dialogue with the viewer about multiple meanings in my work. My images often resemble abstract "urbanscapes." Sometimes they look like city maps and contain both aerial views and distorted perspectives. I insert combinations of structures from different architectural time periods within my paintings and routinely draw from both photographs of various places as well as imaginary building facades.

I consider the organization of space and how different structures effect people and their surroundings. Sometimes the resulting images are perplexing, but I am attracted to this sense of uncertainty because ambiguity draws the viewer deeper into my imagery.
